Silver Mist Studios is based out of Austin, Texas. It was founded in 2004 by Sylvia Coburn and Misty O’Neal, a mother-daughter team of artisans. Misty has been creating jewelry for over a decade, but only recently began to develop it as a business.

Misty is 29 years old. What makes her story so unique is that she has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, more commonly known as Muscular Dystrophy. She’s had it since she was a baby. This debilitating disease has left her with extreme hand and overall body weakness, and a lack of range of motion in extremities. She is wheelchair-bound, but she’s never let that stop her.

Her mother makes lampwork beads, which they use in many of their designs. They also like to use their creativity in all kinds of art. Now, her Aunt Barbara has joined the team, and she has works with dichroic glass, which is a fascinating medium. So it really has developed into a family affair.
